You’re getting ready while calling out the same list: “Get dressed. Brush your teeth. Where are your shoes?” Breakfast isn’t cleared, the backpack is still open, and every next step comes back to you.
Our free morning routine chart generator puts those steps in order. Edit the routine and times, choose your colors, then download a chart your child can follow.
Make your morning routine chart
Give the morning a short, visible order
Open the generator and start with “Morning.” Change the title to your child’s name, edit the steps and clear any you don’t need. Keep the list short enough to check at a glance.
Choose Rose & Lavender, Blue & Green or Warm Neutrals. Let your child pick, then put the finished chart where they get ready. The chart is one small part of a family week everyone can see.
Example: five steps before school
Here’s an illustrative school morning, leaving at 8:00. Change the times to fit your own school run.
| Time | Step |
|---|---|
| 7:10 | Get dressed |
| 7:20 | Eat breakfast |
| 7:40 | Brush teeth |
| 7:50 | Put shoes on |
| 7:55 | Grab backpack |
Set “Out the door by” to 8:00. Clear the extra rows. You can leave times blank if the order is more useful than the clock.
Practice the steps together before expecting independent follow-through. Read the chart with a child who needs help, show where things belong and ask “What’s next on your chart?” Give help where it’s needed. A printed list doesn’t teach the jobs by itself.
For household jobs beyond getting ready, make a separate chore chart. Keep the morning chart focused on leaving the house.
For the things that need to leave with them, make a launch pad by the door: one place for bags, shoes and tomorrow’s extras.
When the morning goes sideways
Late start? Help with the essential steps and leave optional jobs for later. Don’t turn a missed morning into catch-up work tomorrow.
If shoes or the school folder keep holding things up, give them one landing spot the night before. When two steps keep getting mixed up, change their order on the chart rather than repeating a routine that doesn’t fit.
